Pre-Hospital 12-Lead EKGs

When chest pain occurs, Mountain View Hospital has united with local emergency medical system (EMS) agencies to initiate a streamlined response.  When called, these agencies perform a pre-hospital 12 lead EKG and send it to the hospital from the field.  This EKG allows the Emergency Department Physician to make a proper diagnosis before the patient arrives.  By so doing, the Cardiology Department and Cardiac Catheterization Lab can be notified earlier and be ready to perform emergency angioplasty upon the patient’s arrival.  Quicker coronary angioplasty door-to-balloon times equal less heart damage for the patient and a quicker return to home.
